The CSA Oceania consists of a team of four elected delegates to the Council of the Swiss Abroad (CSA) representing Australia and two from New Zealand. Together they represent the region of Oceania, comprised of the English-speaking countries and territories under the diplomatic jurisdiction of the Swiss embassies in Canberra and Wellington.

“The mission of the CSA Oceania is to represent the Swiss Community in Oceania, and to support and defend their interests as Swiss citizens living abroad.”

At present, around 25,700 registered Swiss live in Australia and around 7,100 in New Zealand including its territories of Tokelau, Niue and Cook Islands. Around 70 registered Swiss reside in Papua New Guinea and around another 100 live on the Pacific island nations of Kiribati, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Fiji, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Nauru and Tonga.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the OSA in 2016, the meeting of the Council of the Swiss Abroad was held in the National Council chamber at the Federal Palace in Bern

Reports of the Meetings of the Council of the Swiss Abroad

The Council of the Swiss Abroad meets twice a year to discuss current topics and decide on important matters. The spring meeting traditionally takes place in March in Bern. The autumn meeting is held in August within the framework of the annual Congress of the Swiss Abroad which always takes place in a different location in Switzerland.

 

Lately, however, the meetings were held virtually, due to the pandemic. Click here for the official minutes (in German and French) and video recordings of each meeting.
